By Junious Smith III CARY -- Cary Panther Creek will head home with a third-place Wonderland finish. The Catamounts defeated North Raleigh Christian 50-47 in Wonderland Bracket play Wednesday. “We were tired, playing three games back to back,” Panther Creek coach Danielle Sullivan said. “Coming in, we knew we had to fight and I thought we played sluggish in the first half, but we were able to battle back and secure it down the stretch.” Panther Creek jumped out to a 10-5 lead after a Taylor Barner 3-point play, but North Raleigh Christian answered with a 6-0 run. The Catamounts did get the lead back on a Gracyn Krajewski layup in the waning seconds, but the Knights took the lead back and had a 23-19 advantage at the half. North Raleigh Christian went up 33-26 after a Khloe Moye 3-pointer, but Panther Creek responded with a 12-1 run to take control. Madisyn Jordan’s 3-pointer had the Catamounts ahead 44-38 with 6:17 to play, but the Knights came back as Imani Lester’s put-back with 2:27 left had them up 47-46. Jordan responded with a putback and Barner hit a pair of free throws to extend the lead with 36.8 seconds to play. North Raleigh Christian had one more chance, but a 3-point attempt fell short. Barner scored 14 points, Jordan added 13 and Amira Ofunniyin had eight points and nine rebounds. For North Raleigh Christian, Lester scored 30 points with 13 rebounds and three blocks.
